With all those words you can now say exactly what people mean by the word that gets thrown around most.
Slop
Also called AI slop
Agent output that works and that nobody would have chosen to keep: checks for cases that can't happen, comments that restate the code, helpers with one caller. The tests pass, which is how it gets in.
Each piece looks harmless, so each one gets through review. They add up, though, and the next session reads what is there and copies the style. You can't test this away, because nothing about it is failing.
“Remove everything I didn't ask for: checks for states the types already rule out, comments that restate the next line, and helpers with one caller. The tests must still pass. Show me the line count before and after.”
