A request starts with an address, and every part of the address is read by something different.
URL
Also called Web address
The address of one thing on the web. https://shop.example.com:443/cart?coupon=SAVE#total has a scheme, a host, a port, a path, a query and a fragment. Each part is read by something different.
Naming the part gets you the right change. "Read the page number from the query string" and "put it in the path" are different pieces of work. Agents that build or compare URLs by gluing text together also produce a family of bugs that send people to the wrong place, and you can now spot them.
“Read the page number from the query string as ?page=2, default it to 1, and keep it when the user changes the filter. Build the URL with new URL() and searchParams, not by joining strings. For redirects, compare the parsed hostname to an allowlist.”
