Chapter 18: The proof

Employer AI policies

What a company says about using AI at work and in its hiring. They differ, often within one company: the same process may forbid AI in one round and expect it in the next. So you ask each time, and never assume.

If you work with agents all day, you can break a rule from pure habit. It matters on the job as well: what you may send to a model is a real boundary, and an agent will read whatever you point it at, including things that should never leave the building.

Say it to your agent

“Draft a two-line message to the recruiter asking which rounds allow AI tools, which tools, whether they want to see my screen, and how they would like AI use disclosed on the take-home. Nothing else. I'll send it myself.”
